I am wondering though, if DM maps should be created in an isometric view, and leave the 2d to the player map

A player map is one that indicates where the doors, chests, and Walls are, but leaves out enemy’s, skeletons, and traps that way there is abit of a suprise when you see one.
Of course I could add in certain things like, if your a rogue (or one in group) and you have high perceive then 1-2 of the enemy’s appear on map

I think I’ve also decided on which 3d engine to use, it seems to have alot of the features I want, so hopefully I won’t have to make my own

And finally, I agree with minteh that the only way to make the rooms link properly is to do some corridor generation, plus it then gives people chance todo healing, or levelling

Game Development

Well properly a good idea to start blogging about the game and it’s development

Synapsis: I decided to write a game that uses webgl, and is based on the d&d world, but it will will have it’s content created by the users

Now: so I started with the interface, and have got most of the site layout sorted, it still needs graphics, but that’s why I’ve bought an Inkling so that I can do the images and get them straight into the system

Then I moved onto the map maker, which didn’t go to well, mainly because I had never done any canvas before, but it’s going better now, but still nowhere near done

Them I moved onto the auto map generator, because not everyone can make a map from scratch, so better give people a helping hand, and that has cone on almost perfectly, the rooms don’t quite link properly yet, but it’s better than nothing, it has some nice features
Features :-
Enemy generator based on the start level you give
Boss generator
Chest generator, both empty and multi-slot loot
Skeleton generator, empty, loot
Lights generator so that the 3d side has mood
Trash generator to give the 3d side more life
Door generator (doesn’t quite link rooms yet)
Trap generator, skeleton, pressure plate, trip wire

And all go into an open format so that people can make there own renderers if they want

I will eventually turn this into a kickstarter to get better 3d models, and graphics, and will be opening the game upto beta-testers to iron out bugs

So development must go on

Works favourite pattern

The Intersperser Pattern scatters pieces of functionality throughout a system, making a function impossible to test, modify, or understand.

IE 6,7

I think as a community we can finally stop supporting them,

Wikipedias stats say that only 8% use that, and since Wikipedia isn’t blocked and doesnt say anything to stop ie6 (unlike facebook) I think it’s a fairly safe stat

"You’re making this too complicated when it’s really quite simple.
I don’t mean dint talk to people about what your stressed over, I mean simply don’t talk to anyone trust me, in 2 months time you will be slot less stressed, because you won’t have caused any arguments, you won’t have extended any arguments because your not fighting backs

Life will be good again, and I will be following my own advice, bring on the freedom

Budget

Well it’s budget time again, or as I like to call it incredibly complicated math time,

It always ends in me paying more money and everyone saying I’m paying less

So what’s my predictions,
Petrol increased
Cigs increased (doesn’t effect me)
Min alcohol price (I mostly buy expensive stuff anyway)
And tax allowance reduced, so I have a whole 50p more
Council tax increased so I have 50suid less

Woohoo I get 50p, and lose 49.5squid, now let’s go celebrate

The Word of Notch: Minecraft Beta 1.3

The Word of Notch: Minecraft Beta 1.3:
notch:

* Implemented a new lighting engine with the help of MrMessiahs (can be turned off)
* Changed the options around, added a new “Graphics options” button
* Added beds. If all players in a map sleeps in a bed during night, the game immediately skips until morning
* Added three new half-size blocks
*…

The best way to think of a framework is like a dialect, in china there are hundreds of dialects, two villages 100 miles apart will both speak chinese but words are different

Job fun

This job is funny, there hasn’t been a single day where peoples head isn’t on fire
